work > Airport Fire Station

Fire station at the Bangor International Airport. This project done while working at Harriman Associates. Given a budget so low I was told we couldn't afford concrete block, I created a minimal parallelepiped with two large voids. One at entry and one as roof deck. The chief wanted to use the old fashioned slide poles dropping to specific trucks and to get to either end of runway in 4 minutes. We met these challenges while providing the crew with a panoramic view of the runway from shared spaces and a crisp modern design. The light blue metallic siding blends in with the large metal planes and the sky to appear less a weight and more a volume.
